4 Bears on Thin Ice Following Trade Deadline

With the team recently trending in the wrong direction, these four Chicago Bears have found themselves on thin ice after the NFL trade deadline.

Bears fans were somewhat disappointed when Nate Davis wasn't moved at the trade deadline. The veteran offensive guard has struggled at being a reliable presence on the frontline, leaving the fanbase to wonder just how much more rope the coaching staff will give him.

After an uninspiring 2023 performance, Davis hasn't been any better this season. The former Charlotte blocker has played to an abysmal 53.7 run block grade thus far while also surrendering six QB pressures on 93 passing downs. That's without mentioning the trio of penalties he's taken.

It's become increasingly clear that Davis isn't worth the $11.3 million cap hit he's carrying this season. That's the kind of money you pay a starting-caliber player, not someone who's only made two starts in his five appearances and hasn't played since Week 5.

Considering how the Bears can free up a whopping $9.5 million in cap space by waiving or trading him this offseason, it's evident that Davis' time in Chicago is nearing its end. Unless he turns back the clock and starts playing as he did two years ago, it's hard to imagine him making it to the final year of his contract.
