The Chicago Bears sat back and watched on Monday night as Case Keenum put on an absolute clinic against a respected Philadelphia defense. Keenum had a rushing touchdown to go along with 247 passing yards and a pair of passing touchdowns. The quarterback accomplished this while hitting seven different pass catchers and keeping the offense consistently flowing no matter the support the run game was or wasn't offering. With this in mind, the Bears have a clear trade chip that could become a trade deadline commodity.
If Keenum plays like this moving forward the Bears could trade the quarterback to gain a draft pick and offer the respected veteran one last shot at a starting role. With this in mind, let's look at the teams who unquestionably will have an eye on Keenum moving forward.
1. Atlanta Falcons
The moment Michael Penix Jr. stepped into the starting lineup an ugly two loss team put up 35 points and helped Chicago by beating the Green Bay Packers. However, the issue is having any reason to trust that Penix is going to be able to stay healthy with a long history of injuries. This leads us to the fact that if Penix were to go down again or show a hint of injury, Keenum would be a clear upgrade.
Atlanta has the skill players in place to compete in a wide open NFC South, if the chance emerges it would make sense for both sides to offer Keenum one last shot and for the Falcons to make a move to improve a very concerning quarterback room.
2. Cleveland Browns
Deshaun Watson might have put together a few decent moments, but there is no questioning it is short-lived. The bulk of the last half decade has been spent compiling reasons why the Browns shouldn't have paid even a quarter of what they did to acquire Watson, much less what the franchise handed the quarterback in way of an extension.
The division remains wide open and if Shedeur Sanders isn't trusted it wouldn't be the first time the Browns have turned to an aging backup to help them become a surprise playoff option. Joe Flacco followed this exact path, and the Browns could tun to a familiar face.
3. Tampa Bay Bucs
This one is the most unrealistic as trading Keenum really isn't any option until both Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent return. Once this happens it seems incredibly unlikely that Tampa is still going to be able to trade for a starting option as Baker Mayfield should be close to a return. Still, it is at least interesting enough to note.
Mayfield has a history of injuries and the NFC South as pointed out when discussing the Falcons is the ugliest division and remains wide open. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Bucs at least reach out.
