3 Takeaways from the Bears' Disastrous Loss to the Cardinals
2. Kennan Allen Continues to Struggle
Everyone was excited when the Bears traded a fourth-round pick for Keenan Allen this offseason. Allen was expected to bring a high level of play and to be a security blanket for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Alas, that is not how things have played out so far.
In Allen's very first game as a Bear, he had an uncharacteristic dropped touchdown pass. Despite that sign, everyone gave Allen a pass and said that wouldn't happen again.
Following Week 1, Allen missed two games due to a heel injury. Upon his return, everyone expected Allen to bounce back from his bad first impression. Outside of one game, though, Allen hasn't made a huge impact. In Week 6 against the Jaguars, Allen had five catches on five targets for 41 yards and two touchdowns.
For the past two weeks, Allen has gone back to not making an impact on the game. This week, Allen has four catches on ten targets for 35 yards and one drop. Allen's drop was not only costly because it was third down, but it also hit him square in the hands.
A veteran like Allen can't be making mistakes like these when he was brought in to help Williams develop. From the way Allen is playing, it sure seems like the Bears made a bad move trading for him.
