1. Contain QB Runs

Whether Daniels or Mariota gets the start, designed quarterback runs are a big part of this Commander's offense. Last week, Mariota had 11 rushes for 34 yards. Throughout his career, Mariota has been known for his ability to run. In nine seasons, Mariota has 2,064 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

So, even though Mariota wasn't as effective on the ground last week as Daniels has been this season, it doesn't mean he can't be.

This matchup against the Commanders won't be the first time the Bears face a team with a running quarterback this season. In week 3, they played Anthony Richardson and the Colts. Richardson ended that game with eight rushes for 24 yards.

The Bears being able to neutralize Richardson's running in that game was a bit surprising, especially because they had a hard time stopping the run. Nonetheless, Richardson's struggles in the passing game could have made it easier to key in and stop his runs.

Unlike the Colts, though, whether the Commanders start Daniels or Mariota, they have a fairly balanced offense, which makes it hard to defend quarterback runs. That is why it is important that the defensive line plays with good rush integrity and avoid overcommitting upfield.

If the Bears can take away or at least minimize the Commanders' QB run game, then defending the rest of their offense will be a lot easier.
