3 Bears Whose Stock Is Rising Despite Loss to the Green Bay Packers
3. Roschon Johnson
Roshcon Johnson has been heavily incorporated into the Bears goal line packages this season because of his strength. Nonetheless, Johnson had not seen much time outside of goal-line runs, which was confusing.
Common sense would suggest pairing Johnson's power with D'Andre Swift's speed so defenses don't know what is coming. Johnson's running style also wears down the defense, making it easier for Swift to have big runs.
Alas, that wasn't happening under Waldron. Fortunately, Johnson saw more opportunities against the Packers, with Brown calling plays.
Johnson finished the day with 10 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown. While Johnson's yards per carry was only 3.3, his tough running set the Bears up in good down and distances.
Johnson had two carries on 1st&10 that went for six and seven yards, respectively. On these runs, he ran it straight up the middle and powered through tackles. Both those drives ended in points because Johnson helped set up easy conversions.
After his performance against the Packers, the Bears will utilize Johnson more. Having a good two-back system is important in the NFL now, so Johnson's role in the running game will only help the Bears.
