The Chicago Blackhawks should bring Patrick Kane back right now
The Chicago Blackhawks are a team with no expectations this season. They won the lottery last season which allowed them to take Connor Bedard with the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
They brought in some free agents to help Bedard grow his game in different ways. Nick Foligno and Corey Perry are there to provide some leadership along with protection. Taylor Hall was acquired to give him a skilled winger to play with.
This is a developmental year but they are not focused on the lottery again. It would be nice to end up with another top-five pick but the real goal is developing Bedard along with some of the other top prospects in the organization. That is their path to the Stanley Cup down the line.
Perry and Foligno are not the players they were back in the day but they don’t have to be. Hall isn’t the MVP that he was in 2017-18 but he is still a skilled player. However, with Hall out of the lineup due to injury, Bedard isn’t really surrounded by much help.
He has four points (2-2-4) in seven games so far which only trails Logan Cooley (5 points) of the Arizona Coyotes for the rookie scoring lead. Cooley is an older player who has some more development under his belt but we can expect Bedard to still outscore him if he gets more help.
The Chicago Blackhawks need to get Connor Bedard some help soon.
Taylor Hall assisted on both of Bedard’s goals. Again, the Hawks should be doing what they can to give him some help in the meantime. Honestly, it might be a good time to consider bringing back Patrick Kane.
Kane had an injury last season that kept him from being the best version of himself. He was still decent when his team was on offense but he wasn’t nearly as dynamic as people expect him to be.
Well, he had surgery to correct his hip problem over the summer and he is expecting to be good again. He is also expected to go to a contender to resume his career but the Chicago Blackhawks should at least try. He would do a very good job helping Bedard grow his game.
You don’t have to worry about developing Bedard as a leader. Patrick Kane being there certainly won’t stunt that. Yes, Kane would probably take over as the leader for the rest of the season but Bedard’s leadership qualities are already well beyond his years.
Kane still has the ability to create time and space and Bedard would find himself with the puck in high-danger areas more often. Kane can find lanes for passes as well as anyone. Kane is also someone who could take advantage of the opportunities created by Bedard. It works both ways.
This is something that is highly unlikely but it is fun to think about these two playing together. From a fan point of view, 98 and 88 on a line with each other would just be Chicago Blackhawks hockey magic.
