Chicago Bears’ rival hurt by Aaron Rodgers season-ending injury
The biggest storyline of Week 1 of the NFL season took place on Monday as New York Jets starting quarterback was injured on the fifth play of the game for the Jets’ offense.
Rodgers was sacked by former Chicago Bears linebacker, and current Buffalo Bills’ pass rusher, Leonard Floyd in the first quarter of the Monday night game between the Jets and Bills.
The initial diagnosis of Rodgers’ injury was an ankle injury but the Jets confirmed on Tuesday that the injury was much more severe.
Rodgers underwent an MRI and the imaging revealed that the former Packers’ quarterback suffered a ruptured Achilles.
With the news, Rodgers will now miss the rest of the 2023-2024 season and it remains to be seen if the future Hall of Famer will return next season.
The Green Bay Packers are also losers because of Aaron Rodgers’ injury.
In the meantime, the Packers are also impacted by this news.
The Bears’ NFC North rival will now receive a 2024 second-round pick from the Jets instead of a first-round pick. Rodgers would have had to participate in 65% of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season in order for the Packers to receive the Jets’ 2024 first-round pick.
As a reminder, the Bears, barring a trade, will have two first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. After the Bears’ embarrassing showing against the Packers to open the season and the Carolina Panthers falling to the Atlanta Falcons, this past weekend provided more hope that the Bears will have two picks within the first 10 selections of next year’s draft.
As for the Jets, the plan, for now, is for the team to move forward with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback. Wilson has struggled as a passing quarterback in his first two seasons in the NFL and the team’s addition of Rodgers seemed to indicate that the 2021 second-overall pick did not have a future in New York.
