The Chicago Bears drafted Trevis Gipson with a fifth-round pick in 2020. It turned out to be a diamond in the rough as he was very good for them early on.

In 2022, however, the team was trash and he didn’t have as good of a year. Coming into 2023, everybody had to earn their spots regardless of the past, which makes sense.

Gipson was having a phenomenal preseason but it wasn’t a lock that he would be on the roster. During the final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, he was out there dominating but a report came out about him requesting a trade.

The Bears allowed him to seek out a trade but they were never able to get one done. Now, he is one of the roster cuts as the team trimmed down to 53 ahead of the regular season.

The Chicago Bears have cut Trevis Gipson before the regular season.

This is a move that just makes absolutely no sense. They need help in the pass-rushing department and they let one that has a higher ceiling go.

If they were able to make a trade that is one thing but they weren’t. They are not obligated to follow any personal demands that don’t make the team better.

Gipson will now be able to go to whatever team he wants ahead of the 2023 season. He made sure to say goodbye to Chicago on the way out.

Trevis Gipson also says that he never requested a trade. However, that could be a lie or it could be real. We will never know the truth about that but it is what it is.

Gipson was a good player for the Bears during a tough time but it just didn’t work out. It would be nice to see that they kept him but that isn’t the case. This team has a bright future so we can hope that things start to change as the years go on.

Ryan Poles has only acted on things he thinks make sense for the team so far. At this point in time, there is no reason not to trust him. Until that time comes, it is hard to question him but Trevis Gipson leaving for nothing seems odd.
