The Chicago Cubs are one of the teams currently holding a spot in the Wild Card race. They are 69-62 and are 7-3 in their last ten games.

They had a tough start to the season and then started to get really hot in the second half. At this point, it would be a disappointment if they don’t make the playoffs.

There is a way to get better that presented itself to the world. For some reason, with about a month left in their season, the Los Angeles Angels made a very strange move.

Los Angeles placed former Chicago White Sox ace Lucas Giolito on waivers with a few of his teammates. That list includes former White Sox starter and reliever Reynaldo Lopez.

The Chicago Cubs should go after Lucas Giolito if they can get him.

The Cubs should go after Giolito. He would be a great starter to add to the rotation. He was great with the White Sox this season but didn’t have much luck on the Angels (who really does?).

Giolito would fit in well with some of the other starters that the Cubs have. The depth in the rotation would certainly improve with a starter like that.

With the way the National League is structured right now, a few upsets here and there could allow any team to win the pennant.

If you are the Cubs with the roster that they have, why not try to make a claim like this? Some of the other players on waivers are also good options for the Cubs as they try to get into the playoffs.

This is a chance to improve their team without making a trade. The Cubs would just have to pay his salary for the rest of the year which is absolutely something they can do.

These players put on waivers are eligible to play in the playoffs. The Angels gave the White Sox two really good prospects just for Giolito (and Lopez) to play for someone else in the playoffs.

Chances like this don’t come around often and the Cubs should try. This could be something that helps them once the playoffs arrive. They aren’t even a lock to make it but a player like Giolito can help make that happen.

The Cubs would be the first good team he’s played for this year which helps people sometimes. It will be interesting to see where he lands either way.
