The Chicago Cubs are one of the hottest teams in the National League right now. Despite a bump in the road loss on Friday night to a bad team like the Kansas City Royals, they came back and got a good win on Saturday.

A big reason for that win was theplay of outfielder Cody Bellinger. He hit two home runs in the 6-4 Cubs win. He has been one of the best hitters in the National League this season and the Cubs look like geniuses for bringing him in.

Now, the Cubs are right on the cusp of a playoff position. There is a lot of season left to go so they need to keep playing well which means they need Bellinger to keep going at this pace.

Bellinger has been bad with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the last handful of seasons. It may be because of injury or a simple need for a change but it wasn’t working out there anymore.

The Chicago Cubs have had great success with Cody Bellinger in 2023.

They let him go and he was free to sign with any team in the league. The Cubs took the risk and now they are reaping the benefits. He has been one of the keys to the Cubs having a chance at the playoffs.

Once the season is over, he will be a free agent once again. Scott Boras is his agent which complicates things but the Cubs need to get this done.

They have the financial ability to get this deal done. If the term or the money is too much, they should do it anyway. With guys like Dansby Swanson, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner amongst others locked in, they should do what they can to keep Bellinger around.

If you’re Bellinger, why would you want to leave? He is possibly having the best season of his career and the man has already won a National League MVP in his life. Again, the Cubs and Bellinger should try to get an extension done ASAP. Both sides benefit.
