Finally, the 2023 NFL Preseason is over for the Chicago Bears after they lost to the Buffalo Bills 24-21 at Soldier Field on Saturday afternoon.

While losing is never fun, this is the preseason. Wins and losses do not matter and you shouldn’t think about them after the game is over. My mind is on something else entirely.

All I’ve been able to think about is my deep desire for the Chicago Bears to beat the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the regular season. I’m tired of being a punching bag for our neighbors up north.

Without further ado, let us discuss the final preseason game for the Chicago Bears and begin the countdown until the NFL’s oldest rivalry resumes.

Here are 5 Chicago Bears takeaways from Week 3 of the 2023 NFL Preseason.

1. It’s Tyson Bagent QB2 SZN.

Tyson Bagent, your table is ready. The Shepard University product entered the game early for Chicago after Justin Fields took a big hit from Bills DT Ed Oliver while leading the Bears into the Red Zone.

What was notable about the substitution itself was that P.J. Walker wasn’t the first quarterback off the bench. In fact, Walker would sit until the fourth quarter in favor of Bagent.

Bagent would not be able to punch it in from the Red Zone upon insertion into the lineup but he didn’t wait long to make a return visit.

The Division II legend showed off his athleticism by scrambling multiple times for first downs, culminating with one last scramble for a touchdown to the delight of Justin Fields on the sideline as well as Chicago Bears fans worldwide.

After the Chicago Bears defense forced a turnover on the next possession, Bagent almost lit Soldier Field on fire on the very next play when he threw a beautiful ball on a post route to backup TE Stephen Carlson. It looked to be an easy touchdown, but a diving Carlson was unable to hang on.

Unfortunately, Bagent immediately followed what should’ve been his second touchdown of the day by throwing his only interception of the day.

While the interception showed that Tyson Bagent is still a work in progress, his exciting style of play and decisive decision-making has Bears Nation stirring. After P.J. Walker’s uninspiring summer, Bagent may have a chance to win the storied Chicago Bears backup quarterback job.
