Chicago Cubs faced Javier Baez for the first time ever
On Monday night, the Chicago Cubs paid a visit to the Detroit Tigers. They are still deep in the postseason chase so they needed to have a good showing.
The Tigers are not good but they also aren’t totally bad either. They have a few players that can make you pay if you don’t take them seriously as a team.
It was a tough game as the two teams really challenged each other but the Cubs prevailed. They won the game by a final score of 7-6 thanks to a big 9th inning.
The Tigers tried to rally in the bottom of the inning but could only get half of the runs they needed. It was a good game that ended in the Cubs’ favor.
With the win, the Cubs moved into sole possession of the second Wild Card spot. For a long time, the third spot felt out of reach but they have done so much winning that nothing feels out of reach at this point.
They need to keep playing well and that continues with the Detroit Tigers who won’t make things easy at all. It should be a fun series to watch conclude.
The Chicago Cubs took down Javier Baez and the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
Of course, in playing the Detroit Tigers, that also meant that the Cubs played against Javier Baez for the first time since he was traded away.
The Cubs traded Baez to the New York Mets in 2021 and then he signed a big deal with the Detroit Tigers that off-season. In return, the Cubs got Pete Crow-Armstrong who is now one of the best prospects in all of baseball.
In his first game against his old team, he went 1-4 with two RBIs and two strikeouts. It was probably the most Javier Baez game of all time. Things haven’t been amazing for Baez since leaving the Cubs but he made an impact in this game.
Now, these two teams have two more games against each other this week and the Cubs need them badly. As mentioned before, we can only hope that the series remains this entertaining.
