The Chicago Blackhawks are headed into a season where they won’t be looking backward. They will surely celebrate the past but it will be just that, the past.

Of course, Jonathan Toews is a big part of the past. In fact, he is one of the most important players in the history of the team.

Now, on Thursday, he said goodbye to the city of Chicago on Instagram. Not long after that, he gave another update about his future via his Instagram.

He made it clear that he is not retiring. He still has a burning passion to be a great player in the NHL.

With that said, he is taking time away from hockey. He goes into a little bit of detail as to why and it is mostly pertained to the health issues he has dealt with over the last couple of seasons.

Jonathan Toews won’t have a Chicago Blackhawks sweater on next year.

All the man wants is time and space to heal up some more so that when he comes back, he will be good to go. He is looking for some privacy until he decides to return.

Whether that means a month, a couple of months, or the entire season away from hockey, remains to be seen. He is obviously still a good player that can contribute outstanding two-way play once he does come back.

When he is looking to get back into the league, there will be plenty of contenders lining up to take a chance on him. He’d be a great third-line player on a Stanley Cup contender.

The experience and skills that he brings to the table aren’t available just like that. We can only hope that he is able to make this comeback because he deserves to go out on his own terms.

Toews is one of the all-time greatest Blackhawks players. People will always be interested in what he’s got going on.

Chicago will move on without their captain for the first time in over a decade. Now, it is about seeing what the next core that this team is building can do. Surely, Toews will be celebrated by the franchise down the road. Good luck to him.
