The Chicago Blackhawks are looking ahead to the future. With Connor Bedard coming in, it is hard not to be very excited.

However, there are still a few Chicago Blackhawks legends around that are going to make news around the league.

One of those is Jonathan Toews. Toews was the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks for over a decade and there was a lot of winning involved.

In fact, the team won the Stanley Cup three times throughout his amazing career. At the end of the 2022-23 season, the Blackhawks announced that Toews won’t be back with the team.

The Chicago Blackhawks had some amazing years with Jonathan Toews.

As his contract came to an end, he became an unrestricted free agent. He can go to any team in the league that wants him if he chooses to play again.

There are thoughts that he could retire but we haven’t heard anything yet. With training camp just around the corner, you’d have to assume news on that will come out soon.

If he plays again, there are plenty of contending teams that would like to have him as a depth center. He’d bring tons of skill and experience that could help anyone.

On Thursday, Jonathan Toews took to Instagram to say goodbye to the city of Chicago. It was a very emotional post that makes it clear he isn’t returning. It also somewhat suggests that he might be moving on to another city.

He made sure to recognize his love for the city, all of the accomplishments that the Blackhawks had while he was there, and was thankful for the fans.

Toews really is a Chicago legend. If he finds another NHL home before the start of the season, it will be strange seeing him in another sweater but it will be hard to root against him.

It seems like Toews really did enjoy Chicago and that is nice to see. There were plenty of great moments and it was nice to see him reflect on them on social media.
