The Chicago Blackhawks were saved by Rocky Wirtz on the hockey side of things. It was a horrific situation in terms of hockey operations at the time of his hiring.

An argument can be made that the Hawks were the worst team in all of professional sports at the time of his appointment as owner.

They brought in smart hockey people and that led to the team winning a championship multiple times in a short amount of time.

All of that would have been impossible if it weren’t for Mr. Wirtz. Unfortunately, the hockey world and Chicago sports world lost him.

The Chicago Blackhawks lost Rocky Wirtz at 70 years old on Tuesday.

Reports on Tuesday have come out that Rocky Wirtz has passed away at the age of 70. There are no reports as to how he passed away.

Obviously, any owner that wins three championships in a span of six years will be praised for giving everyone the tools they need in order to get it done.

Before owning the Chicago Blackhawks, he was involved in tons of other family businesses that include the famous beverage company. It was a very interesting life that left too soon.

Not only does Rocky Wirtz get credit for the team turning around, but he also gets credit for the team getting home games back on television. Obviously, the team ended up playing on Comcast Sportsnet Chicago because of him and they are still there (rebranded to NBC Sports Chicago).

Without that transition, this team would still be considered the worst in sports even if they were good on the ice. Without home games being on TV, nobody would be able to ever see the product.

It is sad that he has passed away and the team will certainly mourn the loss of their owner. This story still has more to come out about it as the team will now have a new chairman. RIP Rocky.
