Blackhawks News: This latest Jonathan Toews update hints at retirement
Everyone in Chicago Blackhawks land is moving on from the days that saw them win the Stanley Cup three times in a span of six years.
It was the greatest time in franchise history but now it is about trying to recreate that level of success. It is going to take a lot of work.
However, no matter what, the players that helped them reach those heights the most are always going to be interesting to the fanbase.
Few mean more to people than Jonathan Toews. Of course, he was the captain that led them to multiple championships in addition to being a superstar talent.
The Chicago Blackhawks had some amazing moments with Jonathan Toews.
Toews will always be one of the most celebrated players in the history of Chicago sports. Every team spends lots of time looking for players that impact their clubs like the way Toews did for the Hawks. His play, leadership, and everything else he brought to the table was truly incredible.
Chicago announced that the final game of this past season was going to be his last ahead of time so everybody was ready for it. He played in the game and the fans went crazy for the captain.
Now, he is an unrestricted free agent looking to sign with anyone in the league. We have been waiting to see what is going to happen with him since the season ended.
A new update was found on Wednesday that might suggest a plan is in place for him. Retirement was always on the table for him and it seems that is going to be the case as of right now.
As found by members of the media, Jonathan Toews is not listed by his agency as an NHL which suggests that he isn’t going to play in 2023-24.
It also feels unlikely that he misses next year but then return again down the line. This feels like a retirement announcement is coming.
Obviously, nothing is confirmed yet but Toews not being listed as a free agent right now is very interesting and noteworthy.
If Toews does retire, he will be remembered as one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise but we will obviously get more into that if it became official.
