The Chicago Blackhawks had a very crazy season. Everyone’s focus is on Connor Bedard now but nobody will ever forget the mark that Patrick Kane has left behind.

The Hawks traded him to the New York Rangers before the trade deadline. Unfortunately for Kane, he and the Rangers were eliminated in seven games by the New Jersey Devils. Now, Kane is an unrestricted free agent.

Kane had an okay year offensively but he was truly terrible any time he had to play some defense. If he wasn’t in the offensive zone, he wasn’t even a little effective. He had 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 points in 73 games played. Those are not Patrick Kane-like numbers.

Well, we knew he was dealing with something in his hip. When the Rangers’ season ended, he was deciding whether or not he was going to have a procedure on it. It is never easy to have a big off-season surgery like that when you are a free agent but he did what he had to do.

The Chicago Blackhawks will always be connected with Patrick Kane.

On Thursday, it came out that Kane actually did undergo some surgery. He is going to take about 4-6 months to recover from a hip resurfacing surgery. That is tough news but they believe he will have a lot of hockey left in him when he returns.

Obviously, signing Kane with this injury recovery going to be a risk if a contender decides to do it. There is also a chance that a really bad team signs him with the hopes of shipping him off at the deadline again.

Patrick Kane’s hips are obviously a key to his game as his shiftiness has allowed him to become one of the best offensive players of his generation. We can only hope that he does make a full recovery and gets back to hockey activities soon.

Whatever team he signs with will eventually come to the United Center. No matter what, that is going to be a special day for fans, the team, and Kane himself. This is significant news going into the off-season but we can only hope it works out for him.
