Chicago Cubs can’t sweep the best team in Major League Baseball

The Chicago Cubs had a miraculous set of wins to begin the week. They took the Tampa Bay Rays (who are the best team in the league) down twice in a row to win the series right off the bat.

They came into Wednesday afternoon’s game looking for a sweep over the Rays which would have been wildly impressive. Not bad for the team that came into the series with the worst record in the National League.

They had a chance to win this game early on as they went out to a 2-0 lead. Of course, Tampa Bay doesn’t go down without a fight as they battled all the way back.

Chicago trailed 4-3 in the ninth inning but they made it interesting as bases were loaded with one out and the winning run on second base. Unfortunately, the bottom of the Cubs’ lineup was unable to get it done and the Rays hung on for the win.

The Chicago Cubs mostly found a way vs the Tampa Bay Rays this week.

Tampa Bay improves to a very impressive 40-18 but it is weird to think that they were 39-16 coming in. The Cubs played well enough to earn their respect, despite falling to 24-31 on the year. There are some valuable things they can learn from this series.

Now, the Cubs are off on Thursday but they are going to be doing some traveling. They will head to southern California to take on the San Diego Padres in a three-game series.

Obviously, you know that the Padres are going to present you with a challenge when you play against them because they are loaded with stars. It should be fun to watch Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Manny Machado amongst others do their thing.

The Padres have struggled this season and are only 25-29 despite their talent. If they figure it out, however, they are dangerous. The Cubs need to be at their best. They can win if they play as they did vs Tampa Bay.
