The Chicago Cubs just had a very nice win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon. They only scored one run but that was more than enough thanks to the brilliance of Marcus Stroman.

This is now two truly special starts in a row for him as he dominated the New York Mets last week. This week, he took down one of the best teams in baseball and made easy work of them.

The Tampa Bay Rays are elite World Series contenders that deserve respect. That is why Marcus Stroman’s complete game shutout is incredibly impressive. He should be very proud of that.

He also only allowed one hit and struck out 8 during those 9 innings of dominance. That one hit came in the 7th so he carried a no-hitter through six full innings.

Marcus Stroman has been very good for the Chicago Cubs this season.

Wander Franco’s one little hit kept Stroman from history but it was still an amazing game for him overall. The Cubs really needed that.

Another thing they need is a path. They entered the game with the worst record in the National League which is tough to see after a really nice start.

They are not even close to a finished product just yet so they need to keep their eyes focused on the long-term success of the club. Honestly, that should make Marcus Stroman trade bait.

He is super talented and in his prime but this is an option year for him contractually. If he opts out, which is entirely possible, the Cubs would lose him for nothing.

With how well he is pitching, his value is as high as it will be at any point in time going forward. What contender wouldn’t want the Stroman they saw in his last two starts heading into the playoffs?

Honestly, the team the Cubs just beat would be perfect for Stroman as he chases that World Series championship. The Tampa Bay Rays will be amongst the favorites going into the postseason.

If Stroman will land the Cubs lots of assets, it shouldn’t even be a question for them. We’ll see how he continues to pitch until that time comes (or doesn’t come).
