This offseason, the Chicago Bears saw some big changes occur within their back field. For starters, David Montgomery signed with the Detroit Lions, leaving the Bears to completely overhaul their running back position.

Signing D’Onta Foreman, Travis Homer and drafting Roschon Johnson, the Bears did just that.

Montgomery, meanwhile, now gets to see his former team twice a year after signing with a division rival. As for how he feels about coming to Detroit from Chicago, Montgomery feels some type of way.

The running back was asked how he felt about losing during his time with Chicago, and he didn’t exactly mince words.

It appears David Montgomery doesn’t realize the difference between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions in recent memory

Earth to Monty: The Lions barely held a winning record last season at 9-8. Detroit didn’t make the postseason. In fact, since the last time Detroit found itself in the postseason (2016) the Bears have made the playoffs twice (2018 and 2020).

The last time Detroit won a playoff game, Montgomery wasn’t even born yet (1991). Meanwhile, the Bears’ last playoff win came in 2010.

Over Montgomery’s four years in Chicago, the Bears have won 25 total games. In contrast, the Lions have won just 20 games over the last four seasons.

Montgomery might have been tired of losing, however the Bears are a franchise that will be on the rise, here, soon. This roster is lightyears ahead of where it was a year ago, and Montgomery cannot deny that fact.

Back to his comments, again, real quick. Montgomery does deserve some props for the way he continued to play the game in Chicago, if he truly had lost the “fun” aspect of playing the game. You wouldn’t have guessed he didn’t enjoy it as much, with how hard he continued to run while with the Bears.

it still is funny, though, that he would make a comment like that after joining a team that’s done nothing but lose for the majority of their franchise’s history. For his sake, hopefully Dan Campbell continues to right the ship.

For the Bears’ sake, let’s hope that ship sinks twice a year going forward.
