One of the areas the Chicago Bears needed to address this offseason, general manager Ryan Poles has done a great job in addressing: the defensive line.

For a couple of years now, the Bears’ line has been a weak point, especially when it comes to stopping the run. However, this spring, Poles went out and signed Andrew Billings and DeMarcus Walker. Not to mention, he drafted three defensive linemen in Gervon Dexter, Zacch Pickens and Tyler Scott.

Chicago’s depth up front looks much better than it did a year ago, but that doesn’t mean another move couldn’t happen, especially if a household name were to become available.

Is it any coincidence that, as soon as Aaron Rodgers gets traded to the New York Jets, a little drama might be starting to unfold? It seems drama follows that guy everywhere, and we might just be seeing a big story coming out soon.

Jets star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams recently updated his Twitter bio to: “Defensive tackle for …….”

Not only that, but Williams’ last tweet was a retweet of the new Dexter Lawrence contract. Since then, he has not posted anything.

If Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles wants to continue doing everything to improve the roster, he has to call on Quinnen Williams

Obviously, this is a ploy from Williams to get the Jets’ attention. The “other” New York team did the right thing with their star defensive lineman, signing Lawrence to a massive 4-year deal worth $90 million.

Williams is just 25 years old and entering the final year of his rookie contract.

The Jets have to be careful, here, because this is definitely a situation where they could end up letting the year play out, only to franchise tag Williams, and for the young defensive lineman to make things difficult on the team in 2024 by threatening to sit out.

Now, if the Jets aren’t willing to fork over the money for Williams, then maybe a trade could be on the horizon. After all, the Jets did give up some draft capital in order to land their new quarterback. Maybe, Poles could offer something enticing to New York in order to land a defensive franchise cornerstone for the Bears.

At this point, it’s all just speculation. However, if Chicago could somehow end up with an All Pro defensive tackle who can also rush the passer, as evidenced by his career-high 12.0 sacks last season, then they should do everything they can to make it happen.
