After the draft, there are always plenty of fallouts around the league. For the Chicago Bears, though, there likely aren’t going to be many notable moves made in terms of cuts. Sure, there are a couple of possibilities, but nothing too earth-shattering.

However, for other teams, that’s a different story. One such team, the Tennessee Titans, could see a big-time shakeup at quarterback after they drafted Kentucky’s Will Levis.

Now that the Titans have Levis and Ryan Tannehill, what does that mean for last year’s rookie, Malik Willis? Well, apparently, it might mean that Willis will already be searching for his second team in two years.

There are rumblings that Willis could be the “odd man out” in the Titans’ quarterback room. And, to be honest, it makes sense. The Titans probably don’t want to carry three quarterbacks, and view Levis as their future, not Willis.

So, that begs the question, if he’s cut, should the Bears go after Willis as the backup to Justin Fields?

Malik Willis is an intriguing backup option for Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears

The Bears, of course, signed veterans PJ Walker and Nathan Peterman to fill out their quarterback room for the summer. But, if Willis were to become available, one would have to think long and hard about bringing him in alongside Fields.

If you think about it, the Bears wouldn’t have to change the offense at all should Willis become the backup. He’s a strong, mobile quarterback like Fields, who has a lot of similar traits. Fields is obviously the better NFL player, overall, but Willis could find himself in a prime position to develop.

Willis might never be anything more than a backup, but if he developed into one of the better and more valuable backups in football, then that’s a fine career for the young man. Plus, the Bears would have the luxury of getting their version of the Ravens’ Tyler Huntley, who has backed up Lamar Jackson admirably for a few years now.

The Bears still have plenty of cap space to work with, so if they ended up cutting Walker, they’d be out $2 million in dead cap. But, that’s not the end of the world. If it meant finding a long-term, youthful solution behind Fields, then so be it.
