Chicago Bears Rumors: 3 players it makes sense to trade right now
By Ryan Heckman
With the 2023 NFL Draft over a week in the books, the Chicago Bears are looking ahead to the bulk of their offseason program.
A nice haul of rookies from general manager Ryan Poles should give fans even more faith going into the coming season, but the roster as a whole will undoubtedly still experience some changes before it’s finalized.
Just a few days ago, we talked about a handful of players the Bears should trade now that the draft is over with. Today, we bring you a few more, but they make a whole lot of sense to part with for a variety of reasons.
One or two might come across as a rash decision, at first, but they do all make sense if Chicago is thinking long-term.
Players the Chicago Bears should trade right now: Khalil Herbert, RB
This might sound absolutely crazy, but Khalil Herbert’s trade value is probably as high as it will ever be, if the Bears don’t plan on keeping him after that rookie contract. He has two years left on that rookie deal, and the Bears are now pretty stacked at running back.
Between rookie Roschon Johnson and veteran D’Onta Foreman, plus Travis Homer as a third down back, Chicago could actually afford to trade Herbert. And, for a shifty, talented running back, the Bears might be able to get a mid-round pick in return from a team that still needs a playmaker at the position.
It’s unlikely Herbert gets traded, but it wouldn’t be the most shocking of moves. It does make sense, if the Bears are futuristically-thinking, that is. Otherwise, they’ll roll into the 2023 season with a three-headed monster of Herbert, Johnson and Foreman.
