The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL and there is no doubt about it. In fact, they have the worst roster in the league but they haven’t run away with the top lottery odds because they are well-coached.

On Tuesday, they were in Alberta to take on the Calgary Flames who they were remarkably 2-0-0 against heading into the matchup. They also had the least amount of points in the league coming into the game as well.

The Hawks ended up making it a perfect 3-0-0 against the Flames with a 4-3 victory. To be honest, this was a terrible result for both of the teams involved in the game.

Calgary had a chance to tie the Winnipeg Jets for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference but they lost to this horrible Blackhawks team in regulation. Now, they literally play Winnipeg on Wednesday night and it means even more to them now.

The Flames have struggled to stay consistent this season but they have just recently started to play well. For whatever reason, they couldn’t get it done against Chicago this season as they went 0-2-1. If they end up missing the playoffs, you can point to their season series with the Hawks.

Tuesday night’s game was bad for both the Blackhawks and the Flames.

As for the Blackhawks, they came into the game with the least amount of points in the league. Having the highest chances to land Connor Bedard is certainly ideal as he is going to change one of these bad team franchises for a very long time.

By winning the game, the Hawks moved from 32nd place to 30th place. They are tied with the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets in points now but the Hawks have the tiebreakers in the standings which push them up.

If the season ended today, some very bad things could happen in the lottery. If you come in last, even if you don’t win the lottery the worst you can finish is with the third pick. If you finish in third to last, you can end up with the fifth pick if you are really unlucky.

Things would have been so much better for everybody if the final was flipped. Now, the Flames have to beat Winnipeg and finish even stronger than we thought while the Hawks have to get some help (and continue losing) in the lottery sweepstakes.

The salt in the wound for Blackhawks fans on Tuesday night was this incredible playoff goal that Connor Bedard scored for the Regina Pats. He literally split two defenders and made an amazing move to score the goal. He also had two assists for three points.

That’s not what you want to see on a night when you potentially decreased your odds of getting him by 10 percent but there is a little bit of runway left in the season.
