Chicago Bulls have the chance to move up in playoff positioning vs. Hawks
By Ryan Heckman
Riding a two-game winning streak, the Chicago Bulls head into Tuesday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks with just four games remaining in the regular season.
At this moment, Chicago is sitting in the 10th seed with a record of 38-40. Just ahead of them are the Toronto Raptors at 39-39, and the Hawks in the 9th seed with the same record as Toronto.
Following an enormous comeback win over the Memphis Grizzlies, the Bulls have some momentum on their side as they look to end the season on a positive note and ride into the play-in tournament with a full head of steam.
While there’s almost no chance the Bulls can hop back up above the no. 8 seed, they are assured of a spot in the play-in tournament with a win Tuesday night. Additionally, if the Bulls beat the Hawks for the second-straight time at home, they have a chance to move up ahead of Atlanta in the standings with a record of 39-40.
At that point, they’d be at least sitting in the 9th seed. Furthermore, the Bulls could surpass the Raptors for the 8th seed if Toronto loses to the Charlotte Hornets tonight.
Tuesday night’s game could end up being a lot like the most recent matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks
The last time these two teams met, back on January 23rd, was yet another home contest for the Bulls. Entering the fourth quarter, it was all tied up. Chicago dominated the fourth, though, and won by a score of 111-100.
It was LaVine and DeRozan who combined for 17 of the Bulls’ fourth quarter points, ultimately allowing them to pull away with the victory.
In that game, the Bulls had six players in double figures led by 26 for DeRozan and 20 for LaVine. Where Chicago really excelled, though, was in the paint. Their big guys both ended with double-doubles.
Patrick Williams finished with 18 points and 10 boards, while Nikola Vucevic totaled 14 points and 17 rebounds. It appears we know the recipe for the Bulls to beat the Hawks. If they can win in the front court again, paired with solid outings from LaVine and DeRozan, they should find the W column.
