Blackhawks News: Tuesday was a great day for Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks are having the season that they wanted in terms of building for the future but not one that is easy on anybody. They have been amongst the worst in the league all year long and now that campaign is almost over.
On Tuesday, the team had a very good day in a lot of ways. For one, Jonathan Toews took a morning skate with his teammates. He also opened up about his future with the team as it is clear that he might only have a few weeks left as a Chicago Blackhawks player.
He is going to try and make a late-season return but only in the next couple of days will we be able to tell if he is able to do so. For Blackhawks fans’ sake, it would be really cool to see him return for one more, especially if it came at the United Center.
Chicago has just four more games left out of eight total. That includes the final game of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers. It will be interesting to see what happens with Toews who is the current longest-tenured Blackhawks player.
The Chicago Blackhawks needed some good news before the season ended.
The show went on for Tuesday night as the Hawks hosted the Dallas Stars who are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. They want to win the Stanley Cup as they believe they have a roster good enough to do so.
As you’d expect, the Stars came to town and dominated the home team. Tyler Seguin, Colin Miller, Joe Pavelski, and Luke Glendening all scored to give the Stars a 4-0 lead before Tyler Johnson broke the shutout bid for Jake Oettinger late in the third period.
The Blackhawks were thoroughly dominated by the Stars in this one as the game wasn’t even close. Dallas dominated in every which way and you can claim that losing 4-1 was light for Chicago based on what they deserved.
However, that was a great result for them in the grand scheme of things. They didn’t get a point so they stay at 54 standings points. The San Jose Sharks pulled off a crazy victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday as well so they jumped the Hawks to reach 55 standings points.
Now, only the Columbus Blue Jackets (who lost to the New York Rangers on Tuesday) sit below them at 53 points. Obviously, finishing last gives you a significantly better chance at landing the right to select Connor Bedard in the 2023 Draft Lottery.
This has been a crazy year for Chicago so if they can get a really good draft pick (you know which ones) and have a strong summer of development, they can continue building on this thing. It is going to take a while but they seem to be on the right track now.
