Chicago Bears free agent targets garnering some buzz: Mike McGlinchey, OT

The second player garnering a ton of buzz and being connected to the Bears is one of the top offensive linemen available on this year’s free agent market: San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey.

We know he is a solid pass protector, for the most part, but where McGlinchey really shines is in the run game. Coming from the Kyle Shanahan offense, McGlinchey would fit Chicago’s offense like a glove. Of course, Luke Getsy comes from the Shanahan tree, so this would be a seamless transition for the veteran tackle.

McGlinchey is without a doubt the best run-blocking tackle on the free agent market this offseason, and with as much as the Bears love to run the football, he’d be just about as perfect a signing as Chicago could desire.

In over 1,000 snaps played last season, McGlinchey only gave up six sacks while also protecting three different quarterbacks. Not only did he protect three different quarterbacks, but he’s blocked for a myriad of running backs over the past few seasons. It doesn’t matter who he’s protecting or blocking for; McGlinchey is simply one of the best.
