Chicago Bears Rumors: 3 free agents garnering a lot of buzz
By Ryan Heckman
Monday, the Chicago Bears can officially begin negotiating with free agents. The time has finally arrived.
Fans have been waiting for this moment for quite some time, and now general manager Ryan Poles can get to work with about $75 million in cap space (and potentially more with additional releases or restructures).
Over the past 48 hours, social media has been ablaze with many rumors and a whole lot of buzz around certain free agents, but there have been three in particular which seem to be garnering a lot more attention than others.
On one hand, it could be nothing. However, the more we start to see these names connected to the Bears, even by amateur columnists and media members, the more we have to consider the possibilities.
Chicago Bears free agent targets garnering some buzz: Dre’Mont Jones, DT
Fans know good and well that the Bears need to shore up both sides of the line, and starting on defense with Dre’Mont Jones would be a heck of a signing. The former Ohio State standout and third-round pick back in 2019 enters free agency for the first time and will likely cash in with a decent chunk of change.
Jones is only 26 years old and one of the more underrated defensive linemen in this year’s class. He is especially good in pass rush situations, but has shown a lot of flashes in the run game. He’s very quick and has enough strength to handle double teams well.
Playing mostly defensive end, Jones can also shift inside when needed and do some damage. Last season, he ended with 6.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits in 13 games. Adding Jones, right away, would be a huge get for Poles.
