Chicago Bears Mock Draft: DJ Moore trade makes things interesting
By Ryan Heckman
The Bears could have a need for another outside cornerback with Kyler Gordon moving to the inside permanently and Kindle Vildor not necessarily looking like a long-term option. At the very least, getting Vildor some competition would be in the team’s best interest. That’s what they do here in the third round when they draft Syracuse cornerback Garrett Williams, who joins his teammate Bergeron in Chicago.
Williams stands 5-foot-10 and is a little undersized, but he makes up for that with the ability to match up against just about any route. He does a great job staying with his man, which is something you want in your outside corner above everything else.
He’s also a very crafty, smart player who was not credited with a single penalty over the last two seasons, per Pro Football Focus. Being able to stay with his man and not garner penalties is very rare to find in a third-round rookie, but that’s Williams in a nutshell.
Where he’ll need to improve is looking to play the ball, and not necessarily just sticking to his man. Being able to turn his head sooner will benefit Williams as a pro, but that’s going to come with the right type of coaching, too.
