Chicago Bears Mock Draft: DJ Moore trade makes things interesting
By Ryan Heckman
Of course, fans want to see both sides of the trenches addressed in this year’s draft, and in a big way. How about the Bears go with a defensive and offensive lineman with their first two picks?
Chicago needs to find another starting tackle opposite Braxton Jones, who looks like the only real lock to come back as a starter for 2023. The team thought they could have a possible starter there with Teven Jenkins, but his move to guard looks more permanent now.
With that in mind, and guys like Riley Reiff and Larry Borom not necessarily looking like the answer, the Bears go with Syracuse tackle Matthew Bergeron here in the second round.
Bergeron stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 318 pounds, offering good size. He has starting experience at both tackle positions and a lot of experience coming into the league. One of the things the Bears love to do and will continue to do is run the football early and often, and Bergeron especially excels in run blocking.
In pass protection, Bergeron offers a quick first step to match up with those speed rushers which were somewhat tough for both Reiff and Borom to take on last year. In Bergeron, the Bears now have two young, talented starting tackles to take into their future with Fields under center.
