The Chicago Blackhawks have been holding Patrick Kane out of their recent games because they are going to trade him. Everyone in the hockey world seems to know that he is going to the New York Rangers.

This isn’t the best for the Hawks. Yes, he has earned the right to have this no-move clause so he can control his own destiny in the NHL but there is no doubt that he put this team in a hard spot.

It is out there that he only wants to go to the New York Rangers which gives the Hawks absolutely no leverage. They are doing right by him in order to send him to a contender so he can finish out this year the way he deserves to.

Oddly, it doesn’t seem as if Kane is willing to do right by the team though. Only having one team on his trade list does kind of seem harsh.

The Chicago Blackhawks have been put in a tough spot by Patrick Kane.

There are plenty of contenders in the Eastern Conference that can give the Hawks a better return like the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes, or Buffalo Sabres. Kane would have a chance to win with all of them too.

It just doesn’t feel right that the Hawks are going to trade the best player in franchise history for one of the most underwhelming packages in the history of the sport. Kane isn’t obligated to waive his no-move clause and the team isn’t obligated to trade him. Something’s got to give though.

No matter what the return is, however, it will be better than losing Kane for nothing. This rebuild has been off to a good start under Kyle Davidson and he has his eyes on keeping it going.

If anything, losing Kane makes the Hawks a worse team which will improve their chances of winning the Draft Lottery later this year. It would just be nice if this chapter was ending with a little bit better of a feeling.

As this team rebuilds and starts to win again, people will forget about how hard this time was as it will all be worth it.
