The Chicago Cubs are underway with exhibition games at spring training. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the team due to having a pretty good off-season in terms of additions.

The big additions are hoping to join the good players that were already there for a fun season in 2023. One of last season’s big additions, however, is the story after Monday’s events.

Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is not going to play for Team Japan at the World Baseball Classic. He withdrew from it because of an oblique injury that he is currently dealing with. Obviously, nobody wants to hear that. He was dealing with this all weekend leading up to this announcement.

Suzuki was going to be a big part of Team Japan so this loss is tough for them but the Chicago Cubs are clearly going to want to make sure that he gets back to full strength as quickly as possible.

Seiya Suzuki is going to miss the World Baseball Classic with an injury.

He was injured a fair amount in 2022 and the Cubs would like to make sure that doesn’t happen again this year. He is so good but all baseball fans want to know what he can do when he plays a mostly full season.

He played 111 games in 2022 which isn’t like he missed the whole season but he did work in the off-season to try and get his body ready for a full year. Well, he isn’t off to the greatest start.

This left oblique tightness is not something that is fun to play baseball with. This is something that needs to get resolved as soon as possible. As of now, you just have to hope that it isn’t a strain. If that is the case, Cubs games in 2023 could be in jeopardy.

It seems like there is going to be more clarity on the situation as we move into Tuesday. We can only hope that he isn’t going to be out for very long. It is a tricky injury to deal with.

For now, the Cubs will monitor him while seeing what some of the other exciting players do during the spring training season. When Suzuki comes back, the rest of the team hopes for him to be joining a team ready to go for a big 2023 season.
