The Chicago Cubs had a great time with Willson Contreras on their roster. He was an outstanding player for them and he wore his heart on his sleeve every day. He was a piece that helped them end a 108 World Series drought in 2016. For that, he will be a legend in town forever.

However, the Cubs let him wonder about his fate all summer last year before ultimately not trading him. It seemed like Contreras was told he’d be let go but he never was. Then, he had to play the rest of the season on a Cubs team that was going nowhere.

During the off-season, the Cubs lost him for nothing as he signed as a free agent with the rival St. Louis Cardinals. He chose to go play for the franchise’s most hated rival instead of returning to the club that he spent so much time with. It doesn’t seem like things ended on the best note.

On Saturday, Willson spoke on how much he liked playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. He mentioned how much he liked it better there. He called it a better organization. Of course, that is incredibly disrespectful toward the Chicago Cubs organization.

The Chicago Cubs and Willson Contreras are certainly on the outs now.

He referred to “The Cardinal Way” as something that makes it better there. Hearing that from him after the Cubs helped him earn that contract certainly is surprising. It doesn’t sound at all like he is grateful or appreciative of how things ended in Chicago.

Well, he is a rival now and the Cubs have certainly moved on. They don’t need to be worried about things that he is saying now. He is playing for one of the division rivals that stands in their way of winning a division title. They can get their revenge on the field.

The Cubs will certainly play the Cardinals plenty of times in 2023. The score will be settled on the field. It is a shame that Willson Contreras would say something like this because of how loved he was in Chicago but now the tables are going to turn. It won’t be long until he is the villain in town.
