Blackhawks News: Kane and Lafferty are healthy scratches
The Chicago Blackhawks are in the middle of lots of trade rumors. Everyone on the roster is in danger of being moved and nobody should be considered untouchable at this point. They have their eyes set on the draft lottery and could easily win it.
Ahead of the deadline, the big story is Patrick Kane who is in big-time blockbuster trade rumors. However, he isn’t the only player on the team worth anything to contenders around the NHL.
One player who is expected to be moved is Sam Lafferty. He is a great depth player that can help any team in the league get better. The Blackhawks are healthy scratching him on Saturday for their game against the San Jose Sharks due to roster management. That means he’s as good as gone.
Lafferty has 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 51 games played for the Blackhawks this season in a limited role. He has been great.
The Chicago Blackhawks are going to look a lot different on Saturday night.
Not long after the Hawks announced that Lafferty will be out, however, they also announced that Patrick Kane will be missing as well. Things are starting to get real when it comes to the fact that he is probably going to get moved.
Kane is the greatest player in the history of the franchise so this is obviously going to send shockwaves across the entire NHL. A contender is going to be acquiring one of the best players in the last decade or more which is monumental.
The Blackhawks are also down Jonathan Toews because of his illness that he is dealing with so they are going to look even more different without Kane and Lafferty. Connor Bedard awaits the team that wins the draft lottery and that could easily be the Chicago Blackhawks.
This is a tough time of year for fans in a lot of ways but Blackhawks fans are certainly going to miss Kane when he is gone for good. The news of these scratches is certainly interesting but not all that surprising. In the end, the future of the team will be even brighter than it was before the trade deadline.
