5 Chicago Bears that have failed through the first quarter of the season
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has failed through four games
First of all, can we all just agree that Getsy has gone past the point of being a player’s coach when he told the media this week that he doesn’t believe Justin Fields has had a rough start to the season? Supporting your player is one thing, and telling the truth as a coach can be a gray area sometimes, but Getsy went way past the point of no return.
If Getsy sees improvement from his quarterback, then great, but it’s been minimal at best. As a first-time offensive coordinator, Getsy has a lot to learn. There has been no bigger failure of a game, for Getsy, than in Green Bay.
The Bears started out that game with a great drive, mixing in run and pass. They proceeded to get completely shut down for the remainder of the game, in part due to Getsy going away from what was working — the run game, first and foremost.
The fact is, Chicago’s offense is second-to-last in yardage per game at 274.8. The Bears’ passing attack is dead last, by far, averaging just over 97 yards per game — the next closest is the Giants at nearly 140 per game; almost 50 yards of difference.
Getsy has only been in this role for four games, and by all accounts he should improve, but through the first quarter of the season he has been an absolute failure for the Bears.
