Cubs change rebuild path with these 3 wild Juan Soto trades
The Chicago Cubs are a team that is currently rebuilding their roster. They have traded Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, and Craig Kimbrel.
Willson Contreras and Ian Happ are also on their way out the door. It could be a long time before they are good again as a result of this philosophy.
Some of it is/was needed but some of it is/was because of bad management and a certain level of cheapness. However, there is a way to completely change the path of the rebuild and that is by acquiring Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals.
Soto is on the block and could be moved before the deadline. If the Cubs shocked the world and made a trade for him, it might look something like this:
The Chicago Cubs would be giving up a lot for Juan Soto if they acquired him.
The Chicago Cubs would love to add a player like Juan Soto right about now. If they did it, they might think about trying to win going forward. It would certainly make tickets to Wrigley Field a lot more worth their price than they are right now.
There are a lot of ways to get a deal like this done. The best route is to offer young players in the system to a rebuilding team like Washington. As far as potential success, the Nationals might be one of the only teams faster away than the Cubs.
Pete Crow-Armstrong, Caleb Kilian, and Brailyn Marquez are all amazing prospects who got there in different ways. Kilian has made his MLB debut before and is looking to get a really nice career going after being part of the Kris Bryant trade.
Crow-Armstrong was acquired for Javier Baez by the New York Mets. His development would be amazing for any team that was lucky enough to have him in the long term. He is going to be amazing really soon.
Nick Madrigal is someone that could be expendable. He was great with the Chicago White Sox but has just not been right since joining the Chicago Cubs. For a while, the Cubs looked like clear winners of the Craig Kimbrel trade but now both teams are actually clear losers. It is a hefty price to pay but would be worth it.
