The Tampa Bay Rays need a catcher now that Mike Zunino is out for the season after having surgery. Luckily, the Chicago Cubs have a catcher that might be able t help them named Willson Contreras.

They are hoping to be a playoff team this year in a super competitive American League East Division That could see more than two teams make the playoffs.

If they added a catcher like Contreras to their group, they would have a much better chance of making it to the postseason.

The Chicago Cubs are almost certainly going to trade Contreras as they are rebuilding their roster. As a result of these stars aligning, the Cubs and Rays might be great trade partners. These are three trades that could work for a deal like this:

The Chicago Cubs could try to land a top pitcher for Willson Contreras.

The Chicago Cubs tried to land Tyler Glasnow in 2021 but it never happened. He is injured right now and he might not be ready until the start of the 2023 season after having Tommy John surgery. At that point, he will only have one year left on his deal.

Before he got hurt, he was one of the best pitchers in the American League that could have won the Cy Young. Now, he is a slight risk to trade for but the Cubs are trading Willson Contreras anyway.

If they landed Glasnow they could try to extend him as they should be trying to win again soon after the start of 2023. Each side is taking a risk with a deal like this but it could turn out to benefit both teams and the players.
