3 crazy trades that send Willson Contreras to San Diego Padres
There is a world where the Chicago Cubs get quantity for Willson Contreras.
If the Chicago Cubs are unable to land any top-100 prospects for Willson Contreras this year and they still decide to make a deal with the San Diego Padres, there are still some really nice deals that could be made. Adding as many prospects through this rebuild is very important for the Cubs.
Jackson Merrill, Eguy Rosario, and Robert Gasser are all players that are top ten San Diego Padres prospects. Gasser is a left-handed pitcher and the other two are infielders that are hoping to get themselves into Major League Baseball someday soon.
For Noel Vela, he is the number 30 prospect in San Deigo’s system. He isn’t very likely to become a great MLB player but you have to take chances on these guys as throw-ins for trades. Once again, adding as many prospects of any kind is smart for a rebuilding team like the Cubs.
Willson Contreras seems to still have hope that he is going to stick around but that would not be a smart move by the Cubs at all. They should be looking to see what they can get for him and take the best possible return and run.
An aging star catcher is not what they need to sign long-term right now. They just have to hope that whatever move that is made here, the return helps them move forward as an organization.
