Willson Contreras could get the Cubs the third top-100 prospect from San Diego.

The Chicago Cubs are probably not getting San Diego’s number one prospect in a trade for Willson Contreras. That is Robert Hassel III who is an outfielder currently in A+ ball. He is also ranked as the number 23 guy in all of baseball.

It would be nice but would San Diego do that for half a year of Contreras? It is possible that he re-signs but nobody knows that for sure. There is another guy in the San Diego Padres system that fits the top-100 bill but is much lower and his name is James Wood.

Wood is an outfielder that plays in A ball right now so it is going to be a minute before he makes it to Major League Baseball. He is only 19 years old so he fits exactly what the Cubs should be doing with their rebuild right now.

Reiss Knehr is a good piece to have thrown into the deal as he is a right-handed pitcher and the Cubs could use as many young arms as possible. He could come up and pitch in the big leagues at any time with a slightly lower ceiling than the top-100 guys. If a trade like this is on the table, the Cubs would take a long hard look at it.
