Longtime veteran tackle Jason Peters has been in the news recently, and it’s probably not for the reason most people would think.

Peters is a 9x Pro Bowler, 2x First team All-Pro, and 1x Super Bowl Champion. This past season, Peters also turned 40 years old.

With nothing left to prove and age becoming a major factor, it would have surprised nobody if Peters was going to hang up the cleats. However, he was in the news for the complete opposite reason.

During an interview with SiriusXM NFL radio, the 17-year NFL veteran confirmed that he wants to continue his career and is just waiting for a team to take one final chance on him.

At this point in his career, you would think that Peters wants one last chance at a Super Bowl. However, Peters mentioned in the interview that he is willing to join a rebuilding team so he could mentor some of the future stars of the NFL.

This means if the Bears would be interested in bringing Peters back, there is a chance that the two parties could come to terms on a deal. With the offensive line unit far from finalized, should the Chicago Bears consider bringing back the longtime vet?

Jason Peters has one more season left in him. With all of the offensive line uncertainty, the Chicago Bears should at least look into resigning the longtime veteran.

Last season, Peters started 15 games in Chicago. With a lot of the offensive line being unexperienced in 2021, Peters was a consistent veteran presence at the left tackle spot.

According to PFF, Peters graded out at a 77.5. For a 39-year-old arguably playing the most important position on the offensive line, this is fantastic.

Jason Peters could also fix some of the lineup construction issues that the Bears are having. The main position the Bears are trying to figure out is right guard. Currently, Sam Mustipher is working with the first team, but there is plenty of time for that to change.

If Peters reclaimed his spot at left tackle, the Bears could give both Tevin Jenkins and Braxton Jones a shot at the right guard spot. This move could help the team out tremendously, as it allows the best player to win the job and ultimately improve the line as a whole.

In that same interview with SiriusXM, Peters also praised Justin Fields, saying that he could be a star in the NFL with good protection and coaching.

Everything points to a possible Jason Peters reunion, but will the Bears make a move on him? Only time will tell.
