The Chicago Blackhawks don’t have a lot of high-end skill in their farm system. They need to keep adding in order to rebuild the right way. Tearing down the current NHL roster in order to build it back up the right way is the route that they seem to be taking.

If they want to do that, the best way is through the draft. We saw what they were able to accomplish from 2009 to 2017 because of the fact that they were outstanding on draft night for a long time.

One thing they can do to accelerate that is to trade Alex DeBrincat to a team that wants him. That team would also need to be willing to move a high-end first-round pick. The New Jersey Devils are a team that seems to have an interest in doing something like this.

This is a mock draft that includes a trade between Chicago and New Jersey. This is what an outstanding 2022 NHL Draft for Chicago in this scenario could look like:

Round 1 – Pick Two – Juraj Slafkovsky

The Chicago Blackhawks would love to add a young player like Juraj Slafkovsky.

The Chicago Blackhawks would be very smart to add this type of player. This is also assuming that the Montreal Canadiens take Shane Wright with the first overall pick. There is a lot of chatter about them taking Slafkovsky but it is hard to see happening at this point.

If the Chicago Blackhawks managed to land a prospect like this, they could absolutely push their rebuild forward much quicker. Alex DeBrincat is going to get a huge pay raise after the 2022-23 season which might not be the best idea for the rebuilding Hawks. This could be the move.
