3 Chicago Blackhawks that could sweeten a Patrick Kane trade
The Chicago Blackhawks could consider moving one of their other defensemen.
The Chicago Blackhawks have some defensemen in the organization that are hard to evaluate. Some of them have low floors but high ceilings. Some of them have the potential to be pretty good bottom pair guys if they do make it full-time in the NHL. One of those guys is Alec Regula.
Regula was acquired by the Blackhawks in a 2019 trade with the Detroit Red Wings. Regula and Brandon Perlini were swapped in a one-for-one deal. It is something that the Blackhawks hope can help them in one way or another.
If a team wanted a cheap young (21 years old) defenseman to try developing in addition to adding Patrick Kane’s money and production, Regula might be someone to consider. He scored his first career NHL goal with Chicago during the 2021-22 season and that remains his only career NHL point.
Regula, along with the other players on this list, isn’t going to change a franchise around. However, if a Stanley Cup contender acquired any one of them along with Patrick Kane for a year, it might be worth it for them.
We don’t know for sure if the Hawks will trade Kane or any of their other big-money players. However, we have to assume that it is possible based on the fact that they have used the word rebuild. Hopefully, regardless of what happens, they are able to turn this ship around quickly.
