The Chicago Bears lost once again. They are not a good football team and they are also dealing with some significant injuries. They were defeated on Sunday by the San Francisco 49ers in a game where they fell 33-22. It was a disaster performance by the team as a whole but they saw some big-time plays from Justin Fields.

Of course, Matt Nagy didn’t coach this game as he deals with COVID-19 protocols. Chris Tabor, the special teams coordinator, was the acting head coach for this game. He did a decent job but the team just isn’t good enough.

In a week where Nagy was gone, Fields was clearly allowed to make some advancements that we haven’t seen yet. He was mediocre in the passing game as he went 19/27 with a touchdown pass and an interception. However, his run game was off the charts.

Fields led the Bears in rushing. He had 10 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. It was a very nice day in that regard for him as he looks to add to his game in the NFL. When he was drafted, it was performances like Sunday that Bears fans were dreaming of. Now, if he can develop in the passing game a lot more, he can become an elite NFL starting quarterback.

Justin Fields had an impressive running performance for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears haven’t really seen someone like Fields play quarterback for them. On his touchdown play, there were multiple times where the San Francisco defense had him but he managed to escape and score. It was one of the better scrambles that a Bears QB has ever had.

Now, Matt Nagy is going to come back and make Fields look pedestrian again. They play the elite Pittsburgh Steelers defense on Monday Night Football next week so things aren’t going to be pretty. It is a shame that we have to say these things but Sunday proved even further that it is time to fire Matt Nagy. They didn’t win but the offense was significantly better looking.

At this point in the season, at 3-5, the Bears aren’t going to the playoffs. The most important thing for the team going forward has to be the development of Fields. He clearly has the tools to become an elite player in this league.

If that happens and the Bears hire the right coach, there could be some very exciting times ahead. It was good to see Fields make some plays with his legs and lead the team in rushing in a week where Nagy isn’t there. This is a preview of the future.
