Chicago Bears: 1 player looked like a superstar on Sunday

The Chicago Bears played a decent game on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The offense scored enough points to win the game which has been a problem for a few years now. Andy Dalton started the game but Justin Fields replaced him because of an injury. We don’t know Dalton’s status for next week but there is officially a controversy in Chicago.

The status of the two quarterbacks is the biggest story of the week by far. However, the defense was awesome as well. They did their job to the best of their ability. We saw good plays from guys like Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, and Eddie Jackson which is incredibly important for this team. Without those guys playing like that, the team has no chance.

However, there is one player that stood out above the rest and that is Roquan Smith. He is a former first-round pick that Ryan Pace actually hit on. When he was at Georgia, he was so good and he has carried it into the NFL with the Bears. Now, he is starting to look like a superstar linebacker in the NFL.

On Sunday, he was amazing. He had an interception that he returned to the endzone for a Bears touchdown. The 2018 defense was so good because they created turnovers and scored a bunch so this was a great sign for them. Smith is going to be a big part of the defense for a long time.

That was the first touchdown he scored since high school. He didn’t have one in college so it makes sense but it is good to see him finally get one in the NFL. Making big tackles and being a force on defense is the name of his game but it is good to see him make a play like this every once and a while would be nice.

In addition to the big pick-six, he had a stout game defensively. He had five tackles and three assisted tackles. He also had one sack on the day so you know he was an impactful player. The Bears have a long history of great linebackers so we can only hope that this game is a sign that he is the next one in line. His resume speaks for itself.

In order for Smith to get the most out of himself, he needs his teammates to have his back. When the aforementioned stars out there also play well, there is a better chance of that happening. It also seems like the group had a boost to their game when Fields started playing. Maybe, just maybe, this could be a recipe for success if everyone (including the QB) plays to their potential. Seeing Roquan Smith play like this is a great sign.
