3 deals that the Cubs need to get done with 24 hours until deadline
The Chicago Cubs absolutely have to get the most out of Craig Kimbrel before the deadline.
The Chicago Cubs must trade Craig Kimbrel. It would be sad to see Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, or any other members from 2016 be sent away but Craig Kimbrel is a little bit different. He wasn’t there and despite being a fan favorite lately, he has to be sent off. Out of every player that the Cubs have on the trade block, Kimbrel will net them the biggest return. In 2021, relief pitchers are the most important thing on the trade market.
Teams will give up a king’s ransom for a closer/relief pitcher like Kimbrel. He has been amazing in 2021 so far and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He has a 2.4 WAR which tells you everything you need to know about a guy who pitches for one inning when he is out there. He has a 0.49 ERA and 23 saves on a bad Cubs team. His magnificent play earned him a spot on the National League All-Star team.
A team acquiring Kimbrel would be adding a force to the back of their bullpen. Even if they have a close, it wouldn’t hurt to have two and it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have one of them be a setup man on certain occasions. Kimbrel is a beast and all 30 teams in Major League Baseball would be better with him there.
Of course, some people are going to mentions someone like Javier Baez as well. He is a good trade option but it also seems like the Cubs might try to work something out with him. He won’t get as much in return as the other guys so you never know what they decide there. As far as Bryant, Rizzo, and Kimbrel, they should really consider it a necessity to get those done.
