Chicago Cubs. Anthony Rizzo. 44. player. 9. . 1B

Seeing Anthony Rizzo play for anyone besides the Chicago Cubs is going to be strange.

The Chicago Cubs have seen Anthony Rizzo, like Kris Bryant, become one of the most successful players in the history of the franchise. He doesn’t quite have all of the individual accolades that Bryant has but he has been one of the most consistent players in the league since he has come in. He has been the team’s captain for a long time and was a key piece in them winning the World Series in 2016. The energy that he brought to the field every day will never be forgotten by Cubs fans.

Rizzo playing for another team is going to be strange if it does actually happen. It used to sound like he wanted to be a Cubs player for the rest of his career but some early season negotiation drama made it seem like he no longer thinks that will happen. There have been plenty of rumors out there but it is clearly a wait-and-see approach for Cubs fans. The fact that both Bryant and Rizzo weren’t in Thursday’s starting lineup says a lot.

The Cubs absolutely have to trade Rizzo. It isn’t going to be fun for fans or teammates but it has to be done. He is an aging first baseman with a suspect back issue. If they can get something good for him, it would be totally worth it as they try to build towards the future. They aren’t going to get this grand return for him but they might get something decent.
