Chicago Bulls 2021 NBA Draft: 5 second-round point guards to target
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bulls second round point guard targets: Jose Alvarado, Georgia Tech
Finally, we end with Georgia Tech senior Jose Alvarado. Another undersized point guard, Alvarado stands six feet tall but is one of the best overall defenders in the entire draft class. For that reason alone, he will find a role in the NBA.
Alvarado will likely be drafted in the latter half of the second round, so he’s someone the Bulls would move back for in hopes to add another pick as well.
As the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Alvarado felt as though it was his time to enter the draft. He could have stayed at Tech for a fifth season, but right now was as good a time as any for him to take the chance on hearing his name called. For the Bulls, he would provide a phenomenal lift in one of the most pressing areas.
Chicago has needed help defensively for a few years now, and Alvarado’s intensity and effort on that side of the ball would give him an edge on their bench. He plays extremely hard, and that’s the main reason he has a future in the league. It’s his effort which has stood out to NBA scouts in the pre-draft process.
The four-year starter averaged 15.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and a whopping 2.8 steals in his final season with the Yellow Jackets.
