The Chicago Blackhawks could get a young player back for Duncan Keith.

The San Jose Sharks are a team that has disappointed for a couple of seasons in a row now which is not something NHL fans are used to seeing. They are a team loaded with talent but injuries and bad goaltending have hurt them a lot. However, they are locked into some hefty contracts for a few more years so they might try to add some help no matter what form it comes in. Chicago Blackhawks defenseman would fit right in.

If Keith went to the Sharks, that would be a top-four of Brent Burns, Duncan Keith, Erik Karlsson, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. All of those guys were Olympic-level defensemen during their prime and could all still play the game at a high level now. If they stay healthy, they might be able to come together for one more kick at the can.

Ryan Donato and Colorado’s 2021 fifth-round pick would be an okay return for the aging Keith. Donato is a decent young player who is currently an RFA. If the Hawks acquired him in a deal like this, it would be on them to figure out how much to pay him.

We don’t know for sure if the Hawks will actually go through with any Keith deals or if he will be used as an asset in the expansion draft. Either way, Friedman does make you confident that something is going to happen so you can only hope that the Blackhawks get a decent return.
