Chicago Bears: 5 players whose stock went down after Week 3
By Ryan Heckman
3. LB Danny Trevathan
Going back to the Bears’ issues in the middle, not only is Nichols a part of that, but Danny Trevathan is an even bigger problem. A couple of years ago, this guy was an excellent linebacker. But, it looks as though age has caught up to him a little earlier than some may have guessed.
We are already at a point where fans are talking about Chuck Pagano needing to limit Trevathan’s snaps going forward. That’s not a good sign. But, he’s been bad in both aspects of the game. The run game has gashed Trevathan, but he’s also been embarrassingly bad in coverage.
Before the game in Atlanta, Pagano indicated the Bears would continue to limit his snaps in certain situations.
The issue here is, Trevathan was still bad against the Falcons — really bad.
Missed tackles and a lack of strength appear on a regular basis this season, and it’s a shame. Trevathan has been a fan favorite since joining the Bears. He’s been the heartbeat at times; a real source of energy for that group. But, it might be time for the Bears to take a step back and recognize they made a mistake extending Trevathan.
They’re tied to him for three seasons, including 2020. It’s a difficult contract to deal with, especially when his performance has been so bad early on.
