Special Teams Struggling

Last week, the Bears’ special teams didn’t make any costly mistakes. They were perfect on field goals and extra points, along with Pat O’Donnell setting up the defense nicely with his successful punts.

To win this week, the Bears cannot make costly mistakes on special teams. They will go 3-and-out on offense, they will punt at times, they will settle for field goals. When the do either of those things, O’Donnell has to have another great game, along with Cairo Santos being perfect for the second week in a row.

It goes offense, defense, special teams – the three phases of football. All of them are just as important as the others.

Since losing Robbie Gould, the Bears have struggled to kick the football. They cannot bring that habit back, as they can lose games off of missing kicks or having poor punts. We’ve seen this team do it and I’m sure at some point this season, we’ll watch them miss a crucial kick and put their defense in a rough spot.

To win this game, the Bears have to play well on all three phases of football. If they can do that, they’ll bye 2-0 going into Week 3’s matchup against the Falcons. If they struggle and make mistakes, they’ll be in a rough spot at 1-1, needing a Week 3 win to stay over .500.
